Queen Eleanor of Castille Bust
For this project I would be working on doing different version of the head and hair of the queen Eleanor statue. The Queen Eleanore statue was completed by a different student last year, but my instructor wanted me to explore possible different stylistic treatment of the head of the statue.
To start the project a wooden base was used that was left over from last year. The base rotates so you can quickly check different angles, but there was no way to lock the base so I had to be careful not to shift the base as I applied clay to it. Then scrap foam was layered and shellacked so that the plastacine could adhere to the foam without the foam getting stuck in it.
The requirements of the project were to model different style of face and hair, similar to the bronze in westminster abbey cathedral in London.
One of the source images I would use to create the model.
